Star chart classroom1/14/2024 If you don't want to focus on rewards but still want to stay organized, check out our new chore schedule and chore chart templates. As they get older you can add more goals or chores to their chart. Don't work on more than a few things with young children. If you have a chart with too many goals, they can lose focus. Keeping the charts simple can help the child focus. This is a great chance to help kids' esteem and be uplifting. Parents and children are happier when the parents aren't in a constant state of nagging and disciplining. It does not store any personal data. One of the main reasons to have a rewards chart is to focus on positive rather than negative behavior. I put a little check over the 5th star when I give them the prize, so I can keep track of whose had gotten their prize or not. I put a check over the star when a class has received their prize. Classroom RulesĬlose up view of my behavior chart. I do also work up to bigger prizes like drawing from my treasure chest, etc. I have a wall of world instruments, so kids love to get a chance to play them, since they are so exotic (plus it’s a good teaching moment). Prizes can be something as simple as letting them choose an instrument to play at the end of class (I love prizes that cost me no $$). When a class gets 5 stars, they get a prize. I have three, very simple rules they must meet to get their star for the day. Here is the chart that I used to keep track of things: My behavior system – the class gets a star every time they follow our 3 classroom rules for an entire lesson.Īnother reason I like this system is because it is SUPER EASY, even when you have a million classes like I do (okay 36, to be more accurate). I do add the rule that if you have gotten X amount of notes home/referrals/etc, you do not get to partake in the prize. No students feel left out and the students in the class can encourage their peers to behave. So last year I tried something different. So some students stopped being motivated. And even if you were well behaved, there was no guarantee that your name would be picked. Two years ago I tried targeting out individuals and doing a drawing for prizes. But I didn’t like it because it created animosity between the well-behaved students and the less well-behaved students. But one thing that WILL help your year go much smoother is a good behavior management system. Don’t we all feel that way a little at the beginning of the year? Maybe I’m just an idealist. I think this kind of sums up my pre-August Pinterest binge. I don’t know about you, but late July is when I start to troll the Pinterest boards for ideas to make my classroom super cute.
